We say “no” all the time and yet, when we have to say it to someone’s face and crush their spirits, it somehow becomes hard. Because this is so hard, we thought we should find some creative ways to say no, so here is our list:
- It is not a priority for me at this time.
- My schedule is up in the air right now.
- I don’t love it, which means I’m not the right person for it.
- I would prefer another option.
- I love it, but I know in my gut I’m not the person to execute.
- I would be the absolute worst person to do this, are you out of your mind?
- Life is too short to do things you don’t love.
- You should do this yourself, you would be awesome at it.
- I would love to say yes to everything, but that would be stupid.
Hell, no!
- Some things have come up that need my attention.
- My instincts tell me I’m just not suitable for this.
- Nope.
- No way, Jose.
- Ask me again in a year.
- I know someone that might be a fit for that. I’ll email you their information.
- You’re so kind to think of me, but I can’t.
- Maybe another time.
- Sounds great, but I can’t commit.
- No thank you, but it sounds lovely.
- Not now.
- I’m not able to set aside the time needed.
- I’m honored, but I can’t.
- I’ve got too much on my plate right now.
- I’d love to – can’t.
- I don’t think so.
- Unfortunately not.
- Apologies, but I can’t make it.
- Can I get back to you on that?
- Not in this lifetime.
- My advisors won’t agree to it.
- I’m not the person you’re looking for.
- Sorry, no can do.
- I can’t do that. But here is what I can do.
- How about no?
- I am unavailable.
- Sorry, i’m already booked.
- I’m not interested.
- I don’t want to. (works for 2 year olds!)
- It’s not my thing.
- That doesn’t work for me.
- Listen, I have to get going, but thanks for asking.
- I’d rather remove my own gallbladder with an oyster fork.
- Sounds tempting, but I’ll have to pass.
- Absolutely not.
Which is your favourite? And what would you add?
