Verbalists language network students enjoying the Feast of St George

St. George Day

Earlier in the week, Queen Elizabeth II marked her 90th birthday — an event celebrated across England and the rest of the UK. Today, on April 23, Verbalists are at Trafalgar Square, enjoying the Feast of St George 2016 and celebrating St. George’s Day – which is the closest thing England has to a national day. The day commemorates the death of England’s patron saint, a legendary dragon slayer who wasn’t actually from England.

Today, Trafalgar Square is decorated in red and white for England’s national day. We are surrounded with themed activities, live music, family games, dance and storytelling. Later on, we are going to watch celebrity chefs give live cookery demonstrations and try traditional English fare from the food stalls, inspired by St George’s Day’s 13th-century origins.

To mark 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare, which also falls on 23 April, this year’s St. George’s Day event also celebrates the bard’s life and work with themed activities. Lots to see and do! We’ve got to go, see ya 🙂

There is no doubt that this summer will be very busy and exiting for our students. With the Queen’s birthday, St George’s Day and the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth, it’s a great time to be in London. Some media even claims that Brits have found 90 reasons to celebrate this year…well, let’s explore them together 🙂

Choose here one of our programs and we will arrange every important detail of your language travel adventure to Great Britain from educator’s selection to accommodation and transportation to special interest activities and hidden local gems.
