This ad, with the edginess inspired by ‘Reservoir Dogs’ and ‘Pulp Fiction’, is almost 20 years old and could play today with no problem. Great concept. Great execution. Just a wholly underrated classic.
It’s 141 years since Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis were granted the US patent to make the first riveted men’s work trousers from denim, effectively inventing blue jeans as we know them today.
“That’s strategically naš goal… Our goal! Thank you very much”
John Lewis unveils its latest festive advert, featuring a young boy and what appears to be his pet penguin playing together in the lead up to Christmas Day. After the success of last year’s Bear and the Hare animated ad, which attracted more than 10 million views on YouTube, the department store group has raised its game with the help of Monty, a CGI-animated penguin. The ad cost about £1m to make.
Sam and Monty are the very best of friends. Sam thinks he knows just what Monty is dreaming of for Christmas… something that will make one little penguin’s perfect Christmas day. The boy gradually realises Monty is longing for a penguin companion. And so on Christmas morning Sam surprises Monty with the gift of a new penguin friend named Mabel.
‘Monty’s Christmas’ shows that the best gifts of all come from the heart.
Even though the retailer only released its latest festive commercial this morning, stars Monty and Mabel have already proved to be a huge hit despite the high prices – toys sold out online by afternoon.
Extreme sports are about exhilaration, skill and danger. They do not normally involve teams and there are very few rules. People who take part use their skills and experience to control the risks. That control is what makes them sports and not just dangerous behaviour.
Extreme kayaking at Victoria Falls
Here are just some of the extreme sports which are popular in Britain:
Kitesurfing: a growing band of enthusiasts have been discovering the thrilling combination of kite, board and waves. These kites can be up to 17 metres long. Catch a gust and you’re motoring – up, down and across the surf. British Ladies kitesurfing champion Jo Wilson says: “It’s always an adrenalin rush. It’s unpredictable. You could jump 5ft or 35ft. You never know if you’re going to go up in the air, and your heart is just going boom, boom, boom all the time.”
Coasteering: this is exploring the coastline without worrying about a coastal path or finding a rocky cliffy cove blocking your route. You climb, dive, swim and clamber from A to B. There are about 15 operators in the UK offering coasteering.
Sky diving: traditional parachuting just doesn’t sound risky enough, does it? So now skydiving is the name for jumping from a plane and listening to your heart pounding as you hurtle towards earth before you open your parachute at the last moment. Once you’ve got a few jumps under your parachute you can throw in some extra risks, for example try a ‘hook turn’. Dean Dunbar is a participant of extremedreams.com and his first sky dive was in 1998. Since then he’s been hooked on the buzz of the extreme, saying: “Every so often I have to go out and do something scary.”
Mountain biking: it’s been around so long that bikers are no longer satisfied with just going up and down a mountain. Nowadays thrill seeking mountain bikers want a big slope to go down very, very fast. “It’s pure mad, downhill,” according to Dean Dunbar. “People go to old ski resorts, take the chair lift to the top then bomb down – amazingly not killing themselves.”

Haig Club Exclusive – Guy Ritchie’s extended cut of David Beckham in the new Haig Club TV ad
Haig Club will officially launch on October 17th with the release of a global film, ‘Welcome’, featuring David Beckham and shot by director Guy Ritchie. The film weaves together a series of epic journeys made between a group of friends through the Highlands, as they head towards a Scottish estate.
The action culminates in an iconic toasting ritual with Haig Club at its heart, showing our group toasting their friendship and camaraderie in front of the Scottish Loch they have been venturing towards, before revealing the same toasting moment across a number of stunning locations across the globe.
The film also features the track ‘Left Hand Free’ from Mercury Music Prize winners Alt-J.
Nije iskrivljen” (Curved. Not bent.)
No worries … It happens to us all the time.)
@Mecademic je objavio: “Naši roboti su takođe napravljeni od aluminijuma, ali oni ne mogu da se iskrive” (Our robots too are made of #aluminum, but they don’t bend.)
Curved. Not bent.

Our robots too are made of #aluminum, but they don’t bend.
